Marisol Mendez, M.Ed., LPC
I love a cup of tea and listening to people's stories. And we all have powerful stories shaping our lives. The story I tell myself is that I am here to serve my community. It is a powerful story with important consequences for me and others.
I have always found fulfillment helping others, and for the past 20+, I have volunteered for many causes: mental health and wellness, the environment, children, underserved communities and immigrants, animal rights and food justice. I have been a volunteer, organizer and leader. I still am all of those roles depending on the need of the moment. I understand what it means to build and empower community.
I love diversity of community. I was raised between the United States and Mexico and am fluent in written/spoken Spanish and learning beginning Urdu/Hindi. I identify as a cisgender, straight Latina woman and a person of color with a soul for social justice and decolonizing mental health. I have a deep appreciation for native world views and Eastern spirituality, which will often find their way into my therapeutic practice. I am also certified to teach yoga and facilitate the art of breathwork and meditation.
I graduated from the University of Houston with a Master's in Counseling in 2012 and have provided counseling in health systems, K-12 schools, colleges, individual therapy and crisis centers. And, I have often been one to hold space for fellow activists. I am here for you.
